For my essay I am going to write about how laughter is the best form of medicine. The purpose of this argument is to persuade the audience that people who laugh more are healthier. There are a few studies to back up this theory. For example, Norman Cousins wrote five books about curing himself with laughter. Many people have seen the movie Patch Adams, which is a perfect example of my argument. That is the media that this text uses to back up its argument. The text gives examples of a mother and her child playing with each other and overall has a lighthearted tone to it. I think the audience is very broad. Everyone can use laughter to make them feel better. In the movie Patch Adams, the patients that are sick are children but Norman Cousins is an older gentleman. This argument can appeal to everyone because everyone can use laughter to make him or her feel better.

I like your topic, I think it'll be very interesting. The examples are good to have and back up your thesis. Maybe there are some other questions that you can ask that were on the topic proposal guide and maybe a few more examples you can use to further strengthen your idea.

Be very careful when your peer's response to your writing is almost as long and developed as the writing itself. This does not reflect well on your effort or consideration here.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a great idea for future essays in this class, but not really for essay #1, at least not as you have it framed here in your proposal. For this essay, you want to focus on how the writer of the essay you're focusing on creates his/her argument. What devices are used, meaning, if you are convinced by the writing, why? If you're not convinced, why not? Also, how does the writer appeal to the logic/reason and emotions of his/her audience? How does the writer establish credibility? Don't let yourself get bogged down by the message of the piece; focus on how the author gets the message across.
